Ongoing reforms to Canada鈥檚 international student program are creating a degree of uncertainty for students as well as for colleges and universities.听
, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an intake cap on international student permit applications along with changes to the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Program. And, on , IRCC announced a further reduction to the intake cap and more updates to the PGWP Program.听
Implications for Camosun听
These changes have made our international student recruitment efforts much more difficult. 天美传媒在线观看 is not alone. The changes are being felt by colleges and universities across the country.听
The arrival of the Fall Term has seen a drop of 400 international students from our target of 2,200. We believe this is a direct result of new IRCC directives. Domestic program enrolments have increased, up 4.9 per cent from last Fall, reflecting the success of the college鈥檚 strategic investment in domestic recruitment and marketing campaigns.听
The challenges ahead听
We are concerned about the impact of the IRCC changes on international enrolment both now and longer term.听
The College Executive Team is looking at the potential financial implications and the impact on the college budget. We are watching enrolment numbers for the Winter Term in January.听
